Tandoori Roti (Butter Roti) Recipe
Yields: 4-6 rotis
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 5 minutes per roti
Ingredients:
* 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 tablespoon oil
* Water, as needed
* Melted butter or ghee, for brushing
Instructions:
* Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Add the oil and mix well. Gradually add water, a little at a time, and knead until a soft and pliable dough forms. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
* Shape the rotis: Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Dust a rolling surface with flour and roll out each ball into a thin, round circle.
* Cook the rotis: Heat a tawa (flat griddle) or skillet over medium heat. Place a roti on the hot tawa and cook for a few seconds until small bubbles appear on the surface. Flip the roti and cook for a few more seconds until lightly browned.
* Apply butter: Remove the roti from the tawa and immediately brush with melted butter or ghee. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
Tips:
* For softer rotis, add a tablespoon of yogurt to the dough.
* If you don't have a tawa, you can use a frying pan.
* To make the rotis puff up, hold the roti close to the flame for a few seconds after flipping it.
