Classic Mashed Potatoes
* Ingredients:
* 3 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
* 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
* 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
* 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
* Salt and pepper to taste
* Instructions:
* Boil the Potatoes: Place the potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until tender, about 20-25 minutes.
* Drain and Steam Dry: Drain the potatoes in a colander. Return the pot to the stovetop over medium heat for 1-2 minutes to steam dry any remaining moisture.
* Mash: Transfer the potatoes to a large bowl. Mash with a potato masher or use an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
* Add Warm Milk and Butter: Gradually add the warm milk and butter to the potatoes, mashing constantly until smooth and creamy.
* Season and Serve: Stir in sour cream (if using), salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve immediately.
Tips & Variations:
* Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Add 2-3 cloves of garlic to the pot of boiling water with the potatoes.
* Herb-Infused Mashed Potatoes: Add fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or rosemary to the potatoes before serving.
* Creamy Mashed Potatoes: Use heavy cream instead of milk for a richer flavor.
* Crispy Topping: Top with crispy fried onions or bacon bits for extra flavor and texture.
Enjoy your delicious mashed potatoes!
