lasagna recipe

Here's a classic lasagna recipe that’s rich, cheesy, and flavorful:

Ingredients:

For the Meat Sauce:

1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce (or homemade tomato sauce)

1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

1/4 cup fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional)

For the Cheese Mixture:

15 oz ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

1 tablespoon dried parsley (or 2 tablespoons fresh)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Lasagna:

9-12 lasagna noodles (depending on your pan size, cooked according to package instructions and drained)

Additional mozzarella cheese for topping (about 2 cups)

---

Instructions:

1. Prepare the meat sauce:

In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan, cooking until softened, about 3 minutes.

Stir in the marinara sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning if needed.

2. Prepare the cheese mixture:

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 2 cups of shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, egg, parsley, garlic powder (if using), and salt. Stir until smooth and well combined.

3. Assemble the lasagna:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of the dish.

Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce (3-4 noodles depending on the size of your dish).

Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.

Spoon and spread half of the meat sauce over the cheese.

Repeat the layering: add another layer of noodles, followed by the remaining ricotta mixture and sauce.

4. Top and bake:

Finish by adding a final layer of noodles, then cover the lasagna with the remaining meat sauce.

Sprinkle the top with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

5. Cool and serve:

Allow the lasagna to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This helps it set and makes it easier to serve.

Tips:

Make ahead: You can assemble the lasagna a day before and store it in the refrigerator. Just bake it when you're ready to eat.

Freezing: Lasagna freezes well. After baking, let it cool completely and then freeze individual portions or the entire dish for later use.

For extra flavor, you can add cooked spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini to the meat sauce or cheese mixture.

Enjoy your homemade lasagna!
