Here's a recipe to make this delicious dessert:
Ingredients:
* 4 slices of bread (white bread works best)
* 1 cup milk
* 1/2 cup condensed milk
* 1/4 cup sugar
* 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
* A pinch of saffron strands
* 1 tablespoon ghee, for frying
* Chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios, cashews) for garnish
Instructions:
* Prepare the Bread:
* Remove the crusts from the bread slices and cut them into triangles.
* Heat ghee in a pan and fry the bread pieces until golden brown on both sides.
* Remove the bread pieces from the pan and set aside.
* Make the Milk Mixture:
* In a saucepan, combine milk, condensed milk, sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands.
* Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer.
* Cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture thickens slightly.
* Assemble the Double Ka Meetha:
* Arrange the fried bread pieces in a serving bowl.
* Pour the warm milk mixture over the bread pieces, making sure they are well coated.
* Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or until the bread has absorbed the milk mixture.
* Serve:
* Garnish with chopped nuts and serve warm or chilled.
Tips:
* For a richer flavor, you can add a few drops of rose water to the milk mixture.
* You can also add a few strands of kewra water for a unique flavor.
* If you don't have saffron, you can use a few drops of yellow food coloring.
* To make it extra special, you can bake the Double Ka Meetha in the oven for a few minutes to create a crispy top.
