Signature Spicy, Smoky, Sweet Chili

Signature Spicy, Smoky, Sweet Chili combines bold, smoky flavors with a hint of sweetness and heat for a unique chili that's sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Here’s how to make this flavorful, comforting dish:

Ingredients:

1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey (or a mix of both)

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 red bell pepper, diced

1 jalapeƱo pepper, finely chopped (optional, for added heat)

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (with juices)

1 can (6 oz) tomato paste

1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed

1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for a lighter version)

2 tablespoons chili powder

1 tablespoon smoked paprika (for that smoky flavor)

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for a warm undertone)

1-2 teaspoons brown sugar (depending on your sweetness preference)

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (for a tangy balance)

1-2 teaspoons hot sauce (adjust based on your heat preference)

1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Garnishes (optional):

Sour cream or Greek yogurt

Shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped

Sliced green onions

JalapeƱo slices

Instructions:

1. Cook the Ground Meat:

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef or turkey, and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).

Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Drain any excess fat if needed.

2. SautƩ the Vegetables:

Add the chopped onion, red bell pepper, and jalapeƱo (if using) to the pot. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften and the onion becomes translucent.

Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.

3. Build the Chili Base:

Stir in the tomato paste, and cook for 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to deepen.

Add the diced tomatoes (with juices), kidney beans, black beans, and beef broth. Stir everything together to combine.

4. Season the Chili:

Add the chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, cinnamon (if using), brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce. Stir well to evenly coat the ingredients with the spices.

Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or hot sauce if desired.

5. Simmer the Chili:

Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook uncovered for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will allow the flavors to meld and the chili to thicken.

If you prefer a thinner consistency, add more broth or water to reach your desired texture.

6. Serve:

Once the chili is cooked to your liking, ladle it into bowls and garnish with your choice of sour cream, shredded cheese, fresh cilantro, green onions, and sliced jalapeƱos.

Tips:

Adjust the heat: You can increase or decrease the spiciness by adding more or less jalapeƱo and hot sauce. You can also add chili flakes or a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra heat.

Smoky flavor: If you want even more smoky flavor, consider adding a chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, chopped finely, or a dash of liquid smoke.

Vegetarian option: For a meatless version, use extra beans or add a variety of vegetables like mushrooms, zucchini, or corn.

This Signature Spicy, Smoky, Sweet Chili is the perfect balance

of heat, sweetness, and smoky richness. Serve it on its own or alongside cornbread for a satisfying meal!
