Yields: 4 servings
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
* 1 pound dried spaghetti
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 onion, chopped
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
* 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
* 1 teaspoon dried oregano
* 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
* 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
* Salt and pepper to taste
* 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
Instructions:
* Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
* Make the sauce: While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
* Combine ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
* Combine pasta and sauce: Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat.
* Serve: Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and serve immediately.
Tips:
* For a richer flavor, use fresh tomatoes instead of canned.
* Add your favorite vegetables to the sauce, such as mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers.
* Top with fresh basil or parsley for extra flavor.
* Serve with crusty bread to soak up the extra sauce.
Enjoy your delicious homemade Italian pasta!
