Chaat Tikki (Chole Tikki Chaat)
Chaat Tikki, also known as Chole Tikki Chaat, is a popular street food dish from India. It consists of crispy potato patties (tikkis) served with spicy chickpea curry (chole), various chutneys, and a medley of toppings.
Ingredients:
* For the Tikkis:
* 2 large boiled potatoes, mashed
* 1/2 cup bread crumbs
* 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
* 1 green chili, finely chopped
* 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
* 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
* Salt to taste
* Oil for frying
* For the Chole:
* 1 cup cooked chickpeas (soaked overnight and pressure cooked)
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 tomato, chopped
* 1 green chili, chopped
* 1-inch ginger, grated
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
* 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
* 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
* 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
* 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
* 1 teaspoon amchur powder (dry mango powder)
* Salt to taste
* Oil for cooking
* For the Chaat:
* 1/4 cup yogurt
* 1/4 cup tamarind chutney
* 1/4 cup green chutney
* 1/4 cup chopped onions
* 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
* 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
* Chaat masala to taste
* Sev (optional)
* Pomegranate seeds (optional)
Instructions:
* Make the Tikkis:
* In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, bread crumbs, coriander leaves, green chili, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
* Shape the mixture into small patties.
* Heat oil in a pan and fry the tikkis until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
* Make the Chole:
* Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
* Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chili, ginger, and garlic. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
* Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and amchur powder. Cook for a minute.
* Add cooked chickpeas and salt. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the flavors are well combined.
* Assemble the Chaat:
* Place the tikkis on a plate.
* Top with chole curry.
* Drizzle with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and green chutney.
* Garnish with chopped onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, chaat masala, sev, and pomegranate seeds (if using).
Serve immediately and enjoy the burst of flavors!
Tips:
* For extra crunch, you can add some crushed papdi or sev to the tikki mixture.
* You can adjust the spice level according to your preference.
* To make the tikkis ahead of time, you can refrigerate them and fry the
m just before serving.
